Bremelanotide Acetate (PT-141)
Brief Introduction:
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic peptide drug that acts as an analog of α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) by activating melanocortin receptors (MCR).
Bremelanotide is mainly used to study and treat female sexual dysfunction, especially hypoactive sexual desire disorder.
In clinical trials, Bremelanotide showed significant effects on premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder and helped them maintain normal sexual desire.

Mechanism of Action:
PT-141 acts directly on the central nervous system, especially the hypothalamus and limbic system's sexual behavior regulatory areas (such as mPOA), by non-selectively activating melanocortin receptor subtypes (such as MC3R and MC4R), thereby regulating sexual desire and sexual response.
Unlike traditional drugs (such as Sildenafil), it does not rely on peripheral vasodilation, but works through neural pathways.
Clinical Applications:

Mainly used to treat female hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), especially premenopausal women. It was approved by the US FDA on June 21st, 2019, with the trade name Vyleesi®, and the dosage form is subcutaneous injection.
▲★ Efficacy Characteristics:
Clinical trials show that its efficacy peaks about 4 hours after injection, can quickly stimulate sexual desire, and is non-addictive.
▲★ Other Studies:
Early studies also explored its potential role in male sexual dysfunction, but the main indications are concentrated in the female population.
