Molnupiravir
Brief Introduction:
Molnupiravir is a highly potent ribonucleoside analogue that inhibits the replication of a variety of RNA viruses, including SARS-CoV-2. Through animal studies with two different coronaviruses (SARS-CoV1 and MERS), Molnupiravir has been shown to improve lung function, reduce weight loss, and reduce the amount of virus in the lungs.
In addition to its activity against coronaviruses, Molnupiravir is also of great help in studying the activity of some other viruses, including seasonal influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, Chikungunya virus, Ebola virus, Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus and eastern equine encephalitis virus.
Mechanism of Action:
Molnupiravir can be metabolized into cytidine nucleoside analogues, which are distributed in cells and can be phosphorylated within cells to form ribonucleoside triphosphates, this substance allows the viral RNA polymerase to be incorporated into the RNA of the new coronavirus, thus causing errors in the viral genome and inhibiting the replication of the virus.
