Brief Introduction

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (reduced coenzyme I) is a coenzyme that transfers protons (more precisely hydrogen ions) that occur in many metabolic reactions in cells. NADH or more precisely NADH + H+ is its reduced form. It can be reduced, carrying up to two protons (written as NADH + H+).

Applications

Beta-nicotinamide adenine dinucleoside disodium is a biologically active form of niacin. Used as a coenzyme for hydrogenase and dehydrogenase. NAD normally acts as a hydrogen acceptor, forming NADH, which then acts as a hydrogen donor in the respiratory chain. It mainly exists in living cells in the reduced form (NADPH) and participates in synthetic reactions. Two forms occur, alpha-NAD and beta-NAD, characterized by the configuration of the ribosyl nicotinamide bond. Only the β-anomer is biologically active.
