Benzoic Acid
Brief Introduction:
Benzoic acid is an aromatic acid organic compound and the simplest aromatic acid, with the chemical formula C7H6O2.
Benzoic acid is widely found in nature in the form of free acid, ester or its derivatives. It is mainly used to prepare the preservative sodium benzoate, and is used to synthesize drugs and dyes. It is also used to make plasticizers, mordants, fungicides and spices.
Preparation Method:
Benzoic acid can be produced by direct oxidation of toluene in the presence of manganese dioxide, or by decarboxylation of phthalic anhydride with water vapor.
Solubility:
Slightly soluble in cold water, hexane; soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether, chloroform, benzene, carbon disulfide and turpentine, etc.

Applications of our Benzoic Acid:
1) Cosmetic Field:
Benzoic acid is a common cosmetic ingredient, mainly used to adjust the pH of products, as a preservative, antibacterial agent and antioxidant. In addition, benzoic acid can provide skin moisturizing effects and is therefore widely used in skin care products and cosmetics.
2) Pharmaceutical Field:
Benzoic acid has good antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects, so it is widely used in the medical field. For example, benzoic acid can be used to prepare drugs to treat skin infections and inflammation, such as topical antibacterial ointments, mouth ulcer sprays, etc.
3) Food Field:
Benzoic acid can be used as a food preservative and antibacterial agent in food, beverages, condiments, canned fruits, vegetables, etc. Benzoic acid can inhibit the growth of bacteria and yeast in food and extend the shelf life of food.
4) Industrial Use:
Benzoic acid is widely used in industry to synthesize other chemicals. For example, the reaction of benzoic acid with methanol can produce methyl formate, which is an important raw material for the synthesis of steam distillation gasoline and plasticizers. In addition, benzoic acid can be used to prepare synthetic resins, dyes and coatings.
5) Pesticide Field:
Benzoic acid can be used as an intermediate and preservative for pesticides. It can be used to prepare insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc. As a pesticide intermediate, benzoic acid can react with other chemicals to synthesize pesticides with bactericidal, insecticidal and herbicidal effects.
6) Laboratory Research:
Benzoic acid is often used as a reagent in organic synthesis in chemistry laboratories. It can participate in nucleophilic addition, esterification reactions, carbonylation reactions and other organic synthesis reactions and is used to synthesize organic compounds. Because benzoic acid is easy to prepare and store, it is widely used in laboratory research.
